MFL Debate

On Thursday 16 January, two intrepid adventurers (Sophie Froggatt Yearr 13 and Sarah Binet Yearr 11) took part in the French KS5 debate competition that was being run for the first time in Bexley Grammar School.

The competition saw us pit our multilingual debating wits against 7 other schools in the Bexley borough (3 of which were Grammar schools).
This event was a great opportunity for our students in terms of language skills and extra-curricular information to write on their personal statements and for Bexleyheath Academy, it was fantastic to do more collaborative work across schools!

The statement that they were to debate in French was “An eye for an eye-the only punishment for taking someone's life is death”.

After some really strong arguments, and great justifications on this topic from our two representatives, the decision was now in the hands of the judges.
Out of the seven schools we finished in 3rd position overall and received a certificate for our gallant effort!!!
A tremendous effort especially as we beat a number of Grammar schools in the process. “Merci” again Sarah and Sophie for a job well done!

Bravo les filles!!!
