Reach for the Sky

On Tuesday 24 February, 25 of our Year 10 Media Studies students visited the Sky Academy Skills Studio in Brentford accompanied by Mrs Silvester and Mr Power.

The visit involved a tour of the Sky studios and an opportunity to produce a professional Sky News report. This was the third consecutive year that the Media department had run the trip and the students completely raised the bar in terms of the standard of news report that they produced.

'Celebrity' and 'Award Season' were the themes of the day. With the support of Sky's superb staff, our students created a studio introduction, eyewitness account, on location report and expert interview. Particular recognition needs to go to Callum Gorman and Ellie Douglas for their charismatic news anchoring, Connor Mahoney's well pitched red carpet reporting and Rebecca 'Gaga' O'Brien's extrovert pop star alter ego!

In addition, our students showed immense potential as camera operators, editors, script writers and directors. Many were inspired there and then to pursue careers in the media industry after watching the live buzz from the Sky Sports News studio.

It was, as always a fantastic experience for our students to work with Sky and an equally rewarding experience for the Sky staff to work with the budding Bexleyheath Academy talent.
