We were very fortunate this year to make links with a local business called Ferndale Foods who are based in Erith, Kent. In February, Richard Baxter, Director of Operations and David Cowen, Director of Health & Safety, gave up their invaluable time to come into school to work with our Year 9 BTEC Business students.

The students were given a brief by the directors which required them to create a ready meal to sell in a supermarket. Ferndale Foods currently manufacture ready made meals for Waitrose and Sainsbury’s. The brief asked the students to research a product with an Olympic theme, source the ingredients for the meal, price the meal and design the packaging.

The students then ‘pitched’ their product to the directors of the Ferndale Foods.

On Friday 23 March Year 9 BTEC Business students received prizes for their competition entries. Richard Baxter and David Cowen presented the winners with two produced ready meals, a £15 WH Smith voucher, a medal and group plaque. The winners were:-

Winners of Best Product: Calum Clements, Mohammed Fawaz, Danny Dixon, Aadan Abdalrahim and Jared Baseley.

Winner of Best Presentation: Raman Rai.

The directors commented on how professional all of the students were and were impressed with the standard of research that the Year 9 students had put into their work.  Well done to all of the students who participated.

Thank you To Richard Baxter and David Cowen of Ferndale Foods. We sincerely hope that we can continue this invaluable link to industry next year too.
