Coca Cola Factory Tour 2016

posted 15 Dec 2016, 02:35 by Nicola OHare   [ updated 15 Dec 2016, 04:13 by tjohnson@bexleyheathacademy.org ]

Business students from Year 10 attended trips to the Coca Cola factory in Sidcup on the 29th November and the 13th December 2016. The trip has been successful in the past and on this occasion, the students again were commended by the education manager Caroline Mounter on their enthusiasm and dedication to the subject.

Students took part in a questions and answer session surrounding the topics of production and marketing at Coca Cola Enterprises, then the students toured the factory viewing the bottle and can production lines. The students have been able to see first hand the production process and the efficiency of such a process and understood the need to innovate as the company grows. The students were wowed by the efficiency of the plant and now can envision how an organisation can produce a popular drink every 13 seconds.

The Business & Enterprise Department would like to say a special thanks to the Education Centre at Sidcup for another successful tour.

On the 25th of November all was quiet across the academy……..Until 6pm when the year 7 disco took place in the lower school hall ! Students and teachers alike, whipped, nae naed and dabbed their way through several chart toppers for 2 hours.

Students, supported by Mr Power’s excellent DJ skills competed in a ‘Harlem Shake’ house dance competition, took part in the mannequin challenge, and had an excellent time demonstrating their moves and grooves.

6th form and yr 11 students helped plan and supported the event as all monies raised go to sending our students to Cambodia next year to help build a school. The evening was an amazing success with all the students engaged and exhausted at the end of the evening.

Special thanks goes to the Cambodia Expedition team,Business Department team, Mrs Palmer for her lighting expertise, Mr Twigger for his support and demonstration of the macarana and Mrs Stocking who offered her time.

This beautiful decoration was designed and produced by Bradley Robinson and the Horticulture team for the Year 7 Christmas Disco.

The picture unfortunately does not do this creative structure justice.

The Business & Enterprise Department are extremely grateful to the horticulture team for their support with the disco.

The National Enterprise Challenge 2016, Monday 21st March 2016 USH

100 Year 10 Business students and 50 Year 9 students went head to head for this year's National Enterprise Challenge.  The challenge set by @TheoPaphitis (Dragons Den) was to create a school business, brand it, draw up a marketing strategy and an advert to advertise it (which needed to be acted out).

The competition was very close with the 4 Year 9 groups making it to the final 8 presentations.  There could only be one winner though, to go through to the national final which this year will be in Yorkshire.  Congratulations goes to 'Future Finance' Year 10 group Reece H, James B, Andrew S, Umar A, Thomas H and Harrison B.

Well done to all involved!

On the 25th February, 6th Form Enterprise students were invited to attend an event hosted by Disney. The students travelled to Hammersmith London to the prestigious Disney offices, they were greeted  by life size Clone Troopers from Star Wars Episode 7, after receiving our security passes we were escorted to a meeting room on the 8th floor. On our travels we viewed hundreds of awards which adorned the walls for films and cinematography for many of the films Disney have released over the years.  The London offices are the hub for the Europe, Asia and African enterprises and include; finance, branding and promotional development.

The students listened to several guest speakers all of which were eager to engage and answer questions. After the speeches the students discussed their own enterprises and were offered advice and development strategies in terms of branding and financial planning.

We were given a whistle stop tour of the 8th floor hundreds of Disney characters covered every service and in some parts even the floors were decorated with tracks of who may have been there before!

We were shown the meeting rooms which had themes; the Pixar room had a floor to ceiling trademark lamp and drawings from the Inside Out film. The Marvel room had a model of Spider man mid leap from the wall and on the opposite side Iron Man defended the door.

As we were escorted out a large Mickey Mouse waved farewell before we travelled back to the Academy.

The students enjoyed the trip and we hope to invited back again next year.

Year 10 Coca Cola ‘Real Business Challenge’ London Final, Kia Oval Cricket Ground, Thursday 28th January 16

Inline images 1On this day, our Year 10 Business students, who had made it to the London final went head to head with 10 other schools in London at the prestigious Kia Oval cricket ground.

It must be noted that 850 UK schools take part in this competition so to make it through to the final 10 in London is a massive achievement in itself.

On arrival, the students were introduced to their Coca Cola executive mentor who was to work with them on the challenge throughout the day.  The challenge was to create a promotional campaign to reduce waste in their local area.

The accompanying teachers (myself and Mr Heskins) were whisked away from the students and were made to do the same challenge alongside the students at the back of the arena.

Quickly identifying their skills, each of the students were set a task – make a fully functional app, bus stop poster, media campaign, celebrity endorsement, financial estimation etc.

After a quick working lunch each school were called upon one by one to present their creations in front of 4 Coca Cola senior executives and 100 teachers and students participating.

Our students were creative, professional and realistic in their bid. They were a credit to the academy.  In my experience they were the best team we have ever taken to an enterprising final.  It was very competitive.  However they closely were pipped to the post by Whitgift School Croydon who will go through to the UK final.  Good luck to them!  So close though…………..!

You may find these students approaching you over the course of the next week.  Mybnk will return to the school next Wednesday where the students will present their successes (or failures!) to the facilitators.

Year 12 Enterprise visit to Bexley Civic Offices Tuesday 15th December 2016

Our Year 12 Enterprise students were fortunate to be invited to the Bexley Civic offices this week by Felicity Carne, ‎Strategic Leader for Work Related Learning at Bexley Council.

Our first company 'HOLD', met with the cafe manager and had a Q&A session about a current marketing campaign e-coffee cup (a sustainable organic cup made from Bamboo) as well as other marketing techniques they could use to run the 6th form cafe.

Our second company, 'Light-up' were given permission to set up a trade stand where they could display and sell their goods (candles).

I would like to thank Felicity for giving the students this great opportunity to develop their enterprising skills and both groups felt that it was an invaluable successful visit.
