House News

Our house system increases the feeling of identity and belonging for all students and staff. It provides a healthy level of competition in a supportive environment. Students have the opportunity to develop personal characteristics including self esteem and leadership skills. Win or lose, individuals reap the benefits of team work and camaraderie.

Each house is driven by the core values of Creativity, Aspiration, Resilience, Empathy and Scholarship. Whether students are competing, supporting, or simply celebrating success, they experience each value at some point in their journey through the Academy House system.

Students are encouraged to support their peers from all year groups. With collaboration and a shared vision to succeed, they learn how to work as a team and have high expectations of themselves whilst showing empathy for all. Competitions encourage creativity and hard work which build resilience, patience and determination, win or lose.

Each House colour is inspired by the Olympic rings and the 5 continents that they represent. Following consultation with staff and students it was decided to name each House after an inspirational leader relevant to that Continent; Martin Luther-King, Cathy Freeman, William Shakespeare, Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi.

House assemblies will take place once per half term, one house per day in the LSH, led by Head of House and House Captains.

All staff and students have now been issued with their House pin which should be worn on the front of blazers so that they are clearly visible. If any student has not received their pin please see Mrs Pressney in the PE office. Look out for your House team mates around the Academy and remember to keep earning those points from your teachers.
