Industrial Action on 5 July 2016

Dear Parent / Carer (s)

You will no doubt have heard in the news that the NUT are planning to take strike action on Tuesday 5 July 2016. If this strike action goes ahead it may have an impact on our ability to admit all pupils on the day of the strike, as we have 43 NUT members at the Academy who are eligible to participate in this action. You may also be aware that Tuesday 5 July 2016 isthe first day of our two day induction process for our new year 7 students joining us in September.

In light of the above, I have made the decision in consultation with the Governing Body to close the Academy to all students on the day of the strike and utilise staff who are not striking to run day one of our induction process. We feel it is of paramount importance that we provide these younger students with the full induction programme, which is designed to assist in their smooth transition from primary to secondary schooling.

I understand that closing the Academy may cause parents distress and inconvenience, as alternative childcare may need to be arranged, but we cannot guarantee at this time that there will be adequate staff on site to ensure the health and safety of all pupils, offer a meaningful learning experience for existing students and provide for our new starters at the same time.

On behalf of the Governing Body and staff, I apologise for the disruption this may cause to your child and extended family and thank you for your understanding and support in this matter.

Yours sincerely

Mrs J. Atkinson
